I love these things. I just got them in, I’ve already started the fire pit, and opened a few beers. For the hell of it, I picked up my 45# kettlebell with it and some 550 cord. So I know it’ll hold that at least. I bought a few so I can torture this one.

  2. Daniel F

Mine just came in, I love it. I usually use a ferro rod and steal, but the wheel method on the Firebiner is much more consistent and makes it a lot easier to direct the spark. Great product, it will definitely be a staple of my camping gear in the future, can’t wait to put it to use!

  3. Will

    These are incredible, BUY THEM!!

Bought the 3 pack on Kickstarter and I’ve been carrying one since I got them a few weeks ago. The Fire Wheel sparks reliably, the bottle opener is easy to use and the blade is very sharp. Overall the Firebiner exceeded my expectations and I am thoroughly impressed!

One minor quality control issue I’ve noticed are deviations with the body of the Firebiners I received – There is slightly more material on one where that material was clearly machined away on the others. This has no impact on their function but should be mentioned.

Support these guys, their products are great and they treat their customers very well.

    Thanks Outdoor Element!

  4. Nicholas

Come on… the coloration and the use of these are just top notch. The ‘feel’ and impression of it is extremely good too when the package arrives. Came with spare ferro rods and instructions detailed on the back for the geek that i am .

I can say that its the best kickstarter project i’ve backed to date with constant updates on their progress.

Will get more in the future (bought 3 and gave one away to my brother-in-law)
Its gonna be my travel companion from now onwards!

  5. Derek Stearns

I am so glad I backed this product! Everyone I show it to loves it. I have been toting this around ever since it arrived. The perfect EDC combined with the vial, reflector driver, a bullet light and a pocket samurai. Couldn’t ask for a better product. If you carry a carabiner, you should be carrying this one!

  6. Jill

I love my Firebiner. So far everything works as it should, and it is so light! It came with a few dents, but otherwise I am a very satisfied customer. I am definitely going to be buying more of these, especially when the silver vials come through. I also wrote a more in-depth review here: http://themotleygeek.com/firebiner-review-carabiner-preppers-dream/

  7. David Miller

I backed the 5-pack and have been using one daily and love it.

  8. Amber

Love the fire sparker. Nice and functional as described. Aurora/rainbow color is great. I wish it were smaller, it is a little too big for every day carry (doesn’t fit in my pocket, normal women’s jeans). I wish there were a smaller option for backpacking. I don’t need a bottle opener, screwdriver, or cord cutter on the trail.

    • Joe Brown

Amber, great suggestion. It is actually in the works. Stay tuned…

  9. Leslie (verified owner)

Love it. However, my wife and I have had the wire gate come off on several occasions.

    • Joe Brown

Since the initial production run, based on the great feedback we got, we are now “bucking” the wire gates so they won’t come off. You should not have any more problems with wire gates.

  10. David Miller

What a fun, and useful, addition to my key chain. I love being able to hook my keys to a belt loop and this is so easy to do one-handedly while walking. While I’ll never likely be in a situation where I need a fire-starter, it’s fun having the sparker and playing with it. I have used the screwdriver a few times and the cutter is excellent for those plastic tags. Thanks for such a useful, innovative, and downright fun creation! =)

  12. Nunzio

The wire gate is too loose causing the firebiner to come unhooked from my belt loop. Any idea how I can increase the tension on the wire gate to prevent the aforementioned from happening?

    • Joe Brown

Nunzio, that is interesting. Would you mind sending a picture to me at jbrown@outdoorelement.com? We will either get it fixed or replaced. That does seem strange.
      Thanks,
      Joe

  13. Daniel Garcia

I received mine in PMP Prep Box 📦 and really love the look and feel of it. The Aurora has beautiful colors and is easy to identify. Used the spark wheel to relight a gas stove and used the cutter at work to shorten a cord attached to a child’s balloon 🎈. My only problem is the clip or wire gate is a little lose. I’d feel better with more tension as I use this to carry my car 🚙 keys now. Other then that, want to buy a few more and the fire 🔥 kits for them.

    • Joe Brown

Daniel, thanks for the comment. How long ago did you purchase your Firebiner? We have made some improvements along the way – thicker, stronger wire gate, bucked ends on the wire gate, and the most recent improvement was to put an indentation in the body where the wire gate rests, thus making it more secure. Thanks a ton for your support and helping us spread the word.

  14. Marc Brooks

Love my Firebiners! I was part of the Kickstarter and all three are in daily use. My wife won’t give hers up and my paramedic friend loves the 3rd (and I’ll be she and her cadre are going to love the new Fire Escape, I know I’ll be getting one).

Great quality build, durable. Replaceable flint is great (my 8 & 10 year old sons have started many campfires with it).

  15. Dash Martin

Got my Firebiner a little over a year ago and it’s been great! Unfortunately I went to clip it to my belt loop while walking into a store and discovered the wire gate was gone. Looked all over for it, but had no luck. Any way to get a replacement wire gate?

    OE Reply:
Dash, we will get one sent out to you right away. And, based on the great feedback, we have made some improvements. One of the improvements is a “bucked” gate, so it can’t fall out anymore. Thanks a ton for your support.

  16. Roy Scott

Can I take the Firebiner on an airplane (will the TSA confiscate it)?
Answer: Yes in most areas except Canada and China. The Firebiner has been carried on planes all over the world and have only had issues in Canada and China. If you get a TSA agent that is having a bad day and decides to take it away (they have ultimate discretion) then let us know.

  17. Josh Williams

I was given my Firebiner as a gift from my wife and use it as by key chain. Then one day the wire gate popped off, but I found it. Then it came off again and I never did find it. I continued to use the gateless Firebiner as my keychain because it has many useful functions. The other day I sent Outdoor Element a note and requested a new wire gate. They let me know they would not only send me a new gate, but also a new re-designed Firebiner with a “bucked” wire gate that will not pop out. The product is great, but more than that the company is a pleasure to deal with. It was also good to see product improvements to their already solid products. Thank you Joe.

  19. Wayne

It is a cool product. However how do I change the ferro rod? I also bought the tinder kit with the tool. How do I use the tool to replace the ferro rod? It does not fit in the hole/slot on the side of the wheel.

    • Joe Brown

Wayne, we replied to your other comment. Feel free to email us at info@outdoorelement.com if you need more clarification.

  20. Wayne

I purchased the firebiner and tinder kit with tool. How do I use it to replace the ferro rod?

    • Joe Brown

Wayne, the Firebiner packaging shows you to change out the ferro rod. Use the mini-screwdriver from the kit and carefully unscrew the set screw in the Firebiner opposite the spark wheel. There is a spring inside, so be careful and do this in a controlled environment. Once the set screw is out, pull out the spring and then knock out any remaining ferro rod. Insert new ferro rod and spring. Pinch the set screw between your thumb and forefinger and push it down on top of the spring into the hole that holds the ferro rod and spring. Use the mini-screwdriver (or eyeglass screwdriver) to turn the set screw into the threads until it is about flush with the Firebiner body. You can tighten the set screw as needed to maintain a good spark, until you have used up the ferro rod (about 2,000 sparks) and then it is time to change it out again. Let us know if this works for you. We will work on posting a video to our YouTube channel.
